- LA MOTTE, Iowa -- Paul E. Ludwig, 68, of La Motte, died Thursday, Dec. 24, 2009, at The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 28, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Bellevue, with the Rev. Steven Meyer officiating. Burial will be in Holy Rosary Cemetery. Friends may call from 1 to 6 p.m. today at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road, where there will be a wake service at 1 p.m. Friends also may call after 9:30 a.m. Monday at the church.
He was born on March 14, 1941, in La Motte, son of George J. and Laurina (Haiar) Ludwig. He married Barbara Heinricy on Dec. 1, 1973, at Holy Rosary Church.
Paul had served in the Iowa National Guard.
He was a self-employed electrician his entire life. He also did well pump work.
Paul was a member of La Motte-Key West Knights of Columbus Council 4236 and was a lifelong member of Holy Rosary Parish and later St. Joseph's in Bellevue.
He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Surviving are his wife, Barb; three children, Steve (Terri) Ludwig, of Elizabeth, Ill., Chris (Lourdes) Ludwig, of Jupiter, Fla., and Nick (Laura) Ludwig, of La Motte; three grandchildren, Kyle, Megan and Logan; two sisters, Rita (John) Hickson, of Dubuque, and Grace Ernst, of Bellevue; a brother, Gil Ludwig, of La Motte; a brother-in-law, Gary (Ann) Heinricy, of La Motte; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers-in-law, Bob Dunne and Bob Ernst.
In lieu of flowers, a Paul E. Ludwig Memorial Fund has been established.
